Me:
In therapy, I seek to form the kind of relationship where we collaborate on what you feel, see and understand. Our work together is about feeling and thinking, which can make it hard to measure.
By organising the unspoken, hidden-away parts of us into a cohesive, speakable picture, we become empowered to live our lives with intention.
I wish for all my patients to feel and know my belief in your wisdom, your intrinsic gifts and your expertise in yourself. I hope we can join each other in seeing you as whole, solid and capable.
My therapeutic approach invites emotions with historic, relational roots that have likely been with you for some time. It is typically a longer-term treatment but may also be helpful for those seeking short-term support. I generally see patients on a fortnightly basis though it is not uncommon to meet weekly if practical and feasible.
I continue to engage in my own analysis, supervision and training, drawing from the ideas of classic teachers like Donald Winnicott, John Bowlby and Melanie Klein, and modern teachers like Gabor Maté, Daniel Siegel and Esther Perel.
You:
My patients are often those who see or experience themselves as different, flawed, defective or trapped by their own mind or feelings. They might experience others and the world as fearsome, despite being aware of their intense longing to be seen, valued or deeply connected to another person.
They often feel anxious about starting therapy. It can take time to allow themselves to openly and unapologetically desire to take up space in the mind of someone else, simply as they are.
